Welcome to HEART!
Heaven and Earth Animal Rescue Team (HEART) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer, limited-admission pet rescue funded entirely by private donations. We focus specifically on dogs under 20 pounds, giving small dogs a second chance at safe, loving homes. Our dogs come to us from area shelters, partner rescue groups, found strays, and owner surrenders.
As a limited-admission, no-kill rescue, we accept only as many dogs as our foster homes can responsibly support. We never euthanize to make space. When we are at capacity and learn of a small dog in need, we collaborate with trusted rescue partners to help find a safe alternative placement. Every adoptable dog welcomed into HEART remains in our care until a permanent home is found—they are never at risk of euthanasia due to time or space.
Many of the animals who enter our program have medical or behavioral challenges. Because of this, some dogs become cherished sanctuary residents and remain in our care for the rest of their lives. Others are provided basic training and socialization to get them ready for adoption. We only consider euthanasia in cases where a dog’s medical condition is beyond recovery or when behavior poses a serious safety risk to our volunteers or the public. Even then, we are committed to giving every dog the opportunity to heal—both physically and emotionally—understanding that many have experienced hardship before coming to us.
Our mission is to place each dog in the home that best fits their unique personality and needs. We take the time to truly know our dogs so we can ensure lasting, successful matches. We believe every dog deserves to become a beloved member of a family.
The health and well-being of our animals is our highest priority. Each dog receives a medical evaluation, is fully vaccinated, and is spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Any additional medical needs are addressed before placement.
To help ensure a successful transition, HEART offers a two-week foster-to-adopt trial for all dogs. This allows adopters to feel confident that their new companion is the right fit. Puppies are not adopted before 12 weeks of age. After that time, they are placed in approved foster-to-adopt homes until all veterinary care is completed, at which point the adoption can be finalized.
At HEART, we are committed to compassion, responsibility, and finding every dog the loving home they deserve!
