I wanted to send pictures of Maggie.  We got her a haircut (it's so hot - I wanted to take off some of that hair) and she looks ever more like a Scoottie!  We all love her and think she was one of the best things that has happened to us!  She gets a lot of attention - my kids are homebodies and just enjoy the house even more now that Maggie is there!  :)

Thanks for all that you do for wonderful dogs like Maggie!

Sincerely, Angel

Here is a pic of Ruby, a Sheltie who was adopted by the Taylor family at the end of May. She has come such a long way and is still shy, but loves her family and Sheltie sibling Starbuck more every day! She loves her daily walks, riding in the car, and snuggling with her Mommy while watching Food Network and Animal Planet. She particpated in the first annual North Carolina Puppy Mill Awareness Day in downtown Raleigh in April. Ruby loved getting to know all the other rescued doggies from puppy mills and strutting her stuff in their parade. She keeps hope that her sister Rosie will be found one day or is in a loving home. The Taylors want to thank HEART for putting Ruby into their lives and for all the support they have given.

Just a note to say hello and let you know that Sidney is doing just fine.  I learn new things about him every day.  One sad thing I have learned is that "the fearless one" is terrified of thunder storms!

I got him from you in October and it's very rare for us to get a thunder storm during the winter, so I am just learning this about him.

We had a bad storm in March and I awoke to a shivering, slobbering Sid, standing on my chest, crying.  I tried to soothe him, but nothing helped.  He darted around the house, yelping every time the thunder clapped.  I sat on the floor and tried to hold him, but he tried to bite me, and then he tried to apologize, so I just sat there for him.  He would run to me, then run away.  It was so sad.

Now I check the weather channel and the internet.  If thunder is predicted, Sid gets a special treat (Benadryl in a hot dog). It doesn't totally take away his fear, but it takes the edge off and helps him get through it without a heart attack.

I love him so much and continue to be grateful to you.  Andrew loves him, too, and his life has been made better by Sidney's addition to our home!

When our dog Albert died in March, Chico, our chihuahua mix, was lonely. We read the description of Dizzy (now Jeter) and thought he sounded perfect. And he is! He is sweet, playful, energetic, eager-to-please, and a real clown. He and Chico are inseparable. They sleep together, watch out the front window together, romp together. We walk frequently around Shelley Lake and elsewhere around the neighborhood. Chico grooms Jeter, and Jeter snuggles with Chico. We go on excursions to dog events and pet stores. Jeter loves our cats and plays with the youngest, Quincy. Jeter will play fetch tirelessly and drop the toy or ball at your feet to continue the game. Oh, and he LOVES boiled chicken!- Phyllis

Mona has now been named Meagan by her new family!  She's living it large with Ang and Arlene!  She also has a new sister, Lilly (who is really like a mom to her)!  She's having a great time in her new life and is the perfect dog!

Just some updating news about Mona alias Megan.  She is so adorable, so sweet a wonderful watch dog we can't say enough good things about this little girl.  We have an old Coca-Cola box that I purchased years ago and was made into a little wagon.  Well,  this wagon was and is filled with toys, friends bring her toys and they bring Molly more toys needless to say  we have more toys than she and Molly can play with at one time.  Our dear little Megan takes the toys from the wagon and puts them one  by one in her crate like little soldiers and then she goes into the crate for a nap.  She is constantly playing in the house, she flips the toys in the air Molly sometimes just watches her she appears that she has a little imaginary playmate and she just plays running into the bedroom, living room and foyer with her toys.  I have to tell you she keeps us laughing.  When we go  out we tell her to go into her bed meaning her crate and she just walks into the crate.  When we go out we leave them for about 2 to 3 hours and she and Molly are fine.  Molly of course has the run of the house but Megan crate is within eye view of molly's living room  chair which is where she stays while we are out.

Megan is just a joy, lovable and she is starting to lift her tail and not cower as much and when we first brought her home.  She tries to do everything to please us.  We took her to our vet just for a check-up and to introduce her to our friends at the vet's office.  They loved her and she was so well behaved, our vet examined her and all was ok, she appears to be in excellent health.,They  weighted her and she weighs 11 lbs. she looks great and  thanks again for allowing us to adopt Megan we love her very much.

We think Meagan is smiling!

They get along great!

They are both just so accepting of each other.  We could learn so much from animals!

Little Buddy is a Great Friend!

We adopted Pretty Boy on August 3, 2008 at an Adopt-a-thon at Petsmart in Wake Forest. We had been looking for a pug and when my son and I saw him, we just knew that he was the dog that we had been praying for.

Now we call him Little Buddy but he is still a pretty boy. Little Buddy has learned to do his business outside which took a few accidents in the house, but after about 4 weeks or so he started to get it. He has taken several baths but still doesn't like it. He has gotten to chase and bark at the cats who just ignore him and he has learned how to play with his Webkinz' pug friends (which he still thinks are real!)

All in all he has been a true joy and the perfect little addition to our family. He has a gentle spirit and is great with children. Working with HEART was very good and they were very helpful in the adoption process and the initial weeks to follow in caring for Little Buddy. I highly recommend them and would definitely seek their organization out first should we want to adopt another pet.

Sincerely,

Laurie and Sean

 Captain Wally, at your Service!

Just had to give you an update on Wally-bird (that’s what I like to call him).  He is the happiest, most cuddly, and cutest boy ever.  He looks fabulous!!  Last month, everyone would ask “what kind of dog is that?”  Now, people actually recognize him as a Yorkie.  (fyi—I always thought he looked like a Yorkie).  Wally has especially bonded with his daddy.  Rich takes him everywhere.  We had a fun outing the other weekend in Old Salem---and of course, we took our entire brood.  He is the best dog—he never whines, rides in the car happily, and loves new adventures.

Over Easter we took him on the boat.  Wally loved the boat.  He is quite the pirate!

I just hope and pray that Wally is, indeed, younger than first thought.  Because the thought of losing him in a few years makes me tear up already.  We will do everything that we can to continue to give him the best care to help ensure a long, healthy life.

A big thanks to HEART for finding room for Wally and bringing him into your fold.  What a fun addition he has been to our lives.  Even his sister, Jemma (whom you’ve met) is having fun with her brother.  They like to tease each other with toys and chase each other around the house.  So fun to watch!  And his sister, Chloe, enjoys having his company when she goes to bed early (in our bed, of course).  That’s another funny thing---you will no longer find Wally in a dog bed.  Oh, no---he finds that our bed is the only bed that is good enough for him; so that is where he naps and chews (he loves Nylas).  Often times, if the bed is not made, we will find him perched on one of our pillows.  He snuggles into himself and ends up looking like a roly-poly.
